Lick
Photos of the moggy preening himself, caught on camera with a slow flash (set on second curtain). The flash effect makes him appear fluffier than in real life. Some critters have too much time on their paws.

PADS from the last week

I haven't been focusing too much on my fotopages of late. Blame my blog and my new FlickR photo site. But fear not, here are Photo A Day Shots (PADS) from the last couple of weeks. Again, they're pretty much abstracts taken from around the house/garden, and a 'slice of life' shot taken from my driveway and looking out across the street. Adam has left his Blue Mini Cooper S at my place, so I'm including a photo of it here. More pics of the MCS can be found on my FlickR site if you want to have a look.

Shots from the last week or so, taken at my place and at my folks' place. My leg's still in a cast - and will be for another 3 weeks according to the specialist. Makes it a challenge to move, much less get into a position to take a picture from an interesting angle -- I actually tipped over while trying to take the photo of the lamp.

Anyway, this collection shows parts of objects - not the whole - and tries to achieve some sense of abstract aesthetics (whether colour, balance or line work) with them.

Self-portrait with picture frame and pillow hair

Hmm...
Yeah...
Uh-huh...

This weekend has been singularly relaxing. In the mood, and because I was feeling rather bored, I decided to snap a few self-portraits with a picture frame and door in the background -- because I've run out of subject matter and I'm sure people are sick of seeing photos of the cat. I tried different lighting variations using the 'Render' tool in Photoshop for a couple of the pics.

Photo a Day - Miscellaneous shots

Contrasting textures
Walkway windows
Butt out!

Went for my leg's 2nd check up at Fremantle Hospital today. Serendipitiously, I had the camera in my bag, so I took a few shots en route to the hospital and while waiting outside the hospital. Just for fun.

My leg is now in a blue fibre glass cast. The cast is much, much lighter but not as flexible as the plaster of paris cast. Still, it's good not to feel like you're lugging a rock on your left foot!

The photo 'Evening glow' was taken late afternoon a couple of days ago. The evening sunlight cast such a warm glow over the neighbour's house that I felt compelled to take a photo. I could only do this through the bedroom window and found out later that the flywire mesh created a softening effect in the picture.

PAD: Dave and Jac

Dave and Jac visited today to pick up my car (which I am loaning them while I'm convalescing and can't drive - as Dave's care is at the mechanic's). Anyway, here are black and white shots of Dave and Jac sitting on my sofa reading photography magazines. They're different sizes as I wanted to play around with different levels of cropping.

Yay, fotopages is back. Haven't taken many photos over the last week -- leg still in a cast, semi-incapacitated and all that. Here are a couple of shots from around the house.

Photo A Day - more backyard shots

I took these photos this afternoon (it's still Saturday as I write this as I'm going to post these pics in Sunday's entry). More backyard photos of the usual subjects (plants, cat, stuff...) but I thought I'd try taking photos from different angles and by underexposing to abstract sunlit shapes. The cat photo is pure indulgence - I lowered the camera close to the ground, pointed it at him and snapped the pic. I think it's the first photo ever taken of the underside of his paw.

Yep, more photos from the archives. Araluen Botanical Gardens in located in the foothills of Perth, about 40 minutes from the city. It boasts amazing blossoms, particularly tulips, come spring (August-September). These photos are from a visit in September 2003.
